This site serves me as a learning tool in my Huna studies. It also serves as an independent (on any teacher or school of thought) site for fellow Huna students. It also fills the gap with reviews of available books and courses.

Huna Main

Welcome fellow Huna student, and thanks for dropping by. Huna is a Hawaiian word for "secret" and Max Freedom Long used it to name the techniques/religion/philosophy that he distilled from Hawaiian and other sources. For the lack of better terms, I am using the term huna, very broadly, and with no ambitions for accuracy as that is hard to achieve in that respect. Native Hawaiians who don't agree with MFL's Huna, please forgive me.

There is no such things as "huna" that westerner would like to see. Huna Research counted over 2600 "schools of huna" on Hawaiian islands. If you say huna and someone else says huna, you are not necessarily talking about the exactly same thing, so keep that in mind. Or, as some say, if it works it's huna. And let's not allow the verbal wars over what is and what is not huna take over the Hawaiian spirit of Aloha.

I'm mainly interested in practical aspects of huna teachings, which will probably show on this site. No talking around, techniques and practical things are what interests me most.

There are very few huna teachers around, and not much practical information available. It's also hard to decide which product to use, which book or course to buy. Significant part of this web are thus user reviews of available materials. There is no stuff here to sell. All is free, designed as a community site where you can participate. I would even say, it was the lack of reviews and tangible info on many products that pushed me to create this site, so reviews might become the primary content.

As there are organizations that teach Huna as a religion, I have decided to distinguish this way: Huna is for religion, or as specifically taught by Max Freedom long, huna for the metaphysical teachings based on native Hawaiian practices in general.

Recently this rather important story came to my mind: Huna is purely an invention of Max Freedom Long. Not the techniques included, but the complex of teachings called Huna. Famous Hawaiian Kahuna Daddy Bray when he was teaching in US came to MFL asking whether he can call his teachings Huna, too. That was purely for marketing purposes (Huna already had some following so David Bray could find more students that way), and MFL agreed. This was probably one of the main reasons why today the word huna is used so broadly, while some strict followers of MFL's teachings would like to see it used only for MFL's Huna, and some Hawaiians don't like to see it used for their religious, mystical and metaphysical schools of thought.

agreed. but Max raised consciousness and added clarity, what value do idea's have unless they can help people.I believe that Pluralism and Diversity are fundanental to human progress. Like Yung, Max discovered something, improved it or at least clarified it and passed it on.Better then burying it on the islands.
